Introduction and Background

the-hive-logo-smallEstablished in 2008, The Hive is committed to improving cyclists experience through the relentless application of engineering and design principles. Based in Petaluma, California, The Hive also has offices in San Luis Obispo, California, and Taichung Taiwan.  The roots of The Hive brand were set in place by years of personal experience as cyclists and members of the cycling industry.

Joel Peters, General Manager of The Hive, began his career as a jack of all trades for Truvativ, working in such diverse fields as product design, web development, and eventually handling Taiwan operations. He has spent the last four years as CEO and Manufacturing manager at Perigeum Development, Inc., a design, engineering and manufacturing consulting firm.

While you may not have heard of Perigeum, you’ve probably seen their work in the catalogs of some of the biggest names in the industry. Additionally, Perigeum is the face of Formula Disc Brakes in North America, where they are the exclusive distributor of the Italian Brake line.

Greg Thrash, Design Director of The Hive, spent seven years in the trenches at Optical Coating Laboratory, Inc. (Later JDS Uniphase), designing tooling and machinery to make optical thin films. He has spent the last four years as CFO and chief designer for Perigeum Development, Inc.

George Dubois, Engineering Director of The Hive, learned the ropes at Mountain Cycle, in its Heyday. He followed up with five years of component design at Truvativ, and has spent the last year at Perigeum Development, Inc.

Chris Costello, Director of Sales at The Hive, started out in the industry by attending Barnett Bicycle Institute 15 years ago. Since then, he spent his time turning wrenches and managing shops in Hawaii and throughout the Bay Area. He has spent the last three years as the public face of Formula Brake USA, as its sales and US brand manager.

Charlie Schneider, Dealer Sales & Service, was raised by lumberjacks in the forests of Mendocino County.  After being semi-tamed, he was released back into the wild to work his way through college as a service manager at bike shops in Sonoma County. Charlie’s bicycle interests span many disciplines.  He can be found racing crits and road races on the weekend, and participating in a wealth of mountain bike acronyms during the week (SS, DH, XC, DJ, FR)

Every member of The Hive is an avid cyclist, and was drawn to the industry from a basic love of cycling. Now through The Hive, they intend to improve the experience of cyclists everywhere by developing products that are distinguished by innovative technical features, superb engineering, and industry-leading finishing. Products produced by The Hive will set the standard by which other products are measured.
